Rumi and Mira Return to The Cat Cafe for a Second Engagement

We thought we had a forever home when we were adopted, but things didn't work out. It turns out our adopter saw us when we were sleeping and relaxed and didn't expect the energy and rambunctious nature of the two of us. So we came back to The Cat Cafe and we're hopeful that we will find a home where that's wanted.

We like playing with all of the toys here, but our favorite toy is each other. Sometimes, visitors think we're fighting and actually mad at each other, but we're not. We're just having fun.

Mango Makes Friends in the Cat Lounge

Yes, my eyes are that pretty. But my story isn't. When my human went to the hospital, I was left to fend for myself for several days. I wasn't doing well and kind people got me to The Rescue House, where I was able to get the care I needed to recover and thrive.

I like to get pet by people I know and like and I enjoy playing with toys. Be careful, though, because sometimes I get too excited and nip at hands and arms. That's why I am not good for a home with young children.

My sister and I were in a shelter and we didn't have much time before The Rescue House came in and took us in. And we're grateful for that and we show it. Just a few pets is enough to get us to purr. I'm the more active one, always looking for fun. And sometimes, I can be a little bit of a menace since I may become a tripping hazard when I do that.

But when it's time to settle down, I love to stretch out on the table and relax. I'll gladly accept pets and purr for you when I do that.

I had a home and thought I was all set. But the circumstances of the person who was taking care of me changed and I had to go back to The Rescue House. Not surprisingly, this caused me to be shy and I am more prone to going into the back than the other cats in the clowder.

But if it's calm and I'm hanging around in the cat room, you'll likely find me on one of the palms. And when I'm there, you can approach me and pet me. I'm not anxious to play with toys. You'll have to be patient if you want me to swat at a ribbon toy. When I do it, I'm definitely assertive about it.

Take your time to get to know me and I'll be your friend.

Porsche Powers her Purr Motor at The Cat Cafe

When you come in to the cat room, you might have to spend some time finding me. I like to go up high when it's time to nap. It's the perfect way for me to make sure that I can get my sleep in. Nobody can bother me when I'm up high. But when I come down?

You'll quickly see how I got my name. I'll dart around the room chasing toy mice and if you get the right wand toy, I'll bat that around for you, too. And when I'm done and hop up off the ground onto one of the trees? The purr motor gets revved right up.

Sunny Says Hello to The Cat Cafe Visitors

I'm a big guy and you might think that I spend most of my time on the floor because of it. But that's not true. I like to climb up to high spots and observe the visitors and staff. And if it's calm and I like the people who are here, I'll hop on down and join you on the floor.

When I do, you'll be surprised at how quickly a big guy like me can get to toys. Bring a wand toy over and watch me swat at it, a lot of times more quickly than some of the younger and smaller cats. Just because I'm big doesn't mean my reflexes are slow.

After I'm done playing, I'll climb back up high for a nap. Why put myself where my nap can be interrupted?

Grayson Enjoying The Cat Cafe Clowder

When you see how much I like interacting with the other cats in the clowder, you'd never believe that I used to be a cat who fought other cats and got FIV because of it. But that was before I got fixed and now I've calmed down a lot. I like to groom the other cats here and I enjoy giving them baths as much as they like being cleaned.

When I'm not doing that, I like to bat around wand toys and after I've had enough activity, I'll wander over to people and flop down by their feet.

You might be wondering what it means for a cat to have FIV. It's really nothing you need to worry about. I can live a long and happy life with the disease and I can't give it to other cats or people.

When a kind person found me alone as a kitten, they looked for my mother. But when my mother didn't show up, they knew I needed help. They got me to a foster home for The Rescue House, where I was able to get the care I needed to thrive. And now I'm healthy and happy.

It took me next to no time to start exploring things when I arrived. I'm a little cautious with other cats even though I like them. Give me time, though, and I become friends with them.

I was living under a trash pile by a freeway underpass with my mother and my two daughters. My daughters and I came to The Cat Cafe. They've been adopted, and now I'm here enjoying my time here.

As you can see from my photo, I like to sit at the table and enjoy the presence of the people who work here and visitors. And when I want to, I'll walk over and talk to you with an elegant but firm meow.

Dizzy Dazzles Visitors to The Cat Cafe Cat Room

Want to see an active cat run around? Watch me. You'll see me run up to the top of the eight foot tall palm tree and you might think that means I'm done playing. Not so. Flick the ribbon up to the top of the palm and watch me swat at it. And when I'm finally done, I'll curl up for a nap up there.

I won't stay up there for long, though. Eventually I'll make my way back down to enjoy the view out the window. And if you catch me then, it's a good time to see if I want to play.

But I don't want you to think that I don't enjoy quiet moments with my people. I usually let them know by meowing right before I curl up in a ball in the sun. That's the best time to pet me.

Chester's Unique Eyes Will Make You Stop and Observe

The first thing people ask about me is what happened to my eyes. Sadly, when I was living outside, my left eye kept getting infections. Those are all gone now, but due to those infections, I often have a watery left eye. And the coloration is very different than my right eye. The doctor doesn't know if I can see out of my left eye but that's okay. Whether I can or not, you'll see I do just fine when you see me chase around a toy.

After I'm done playing with my toys, one of the things I like to do is lounge. And you can find me lounging in strange positions.

Some people feel bad because of the issue with my eye. Don't. Come and watch me play and run around and you'll know there's nothing wrong with my ability to love and enjoy the company of you two legged creatures.

We're a bonded pair of sisters who were living outside. When we showed how friendly we are to the people who were taking care of the colony we lived in, they decided that we'd do well inside. And when one of us (Tatiana) suffered a damaged eye, they decided to move us to a foster home for The Rescue House.

Once we decide we like you, we quickly become tripping hazards, so make sure you shuffle your feet around us. And we hope there's plenty of room on your bed, because we're going to want to join you there at night. We sometimes both squeeze onto the lap of the staff here.

We may only have three eyes instead of four, but we can definitely see our way into your heart.

If you come to visit us and don't see us right away, you should look up. No, not high enough. All the way up to the top of the eight feet tall palm tree. There's a good chance that's where we are. It's where we first went when we arrived and it's still our favorite spot.

Don't worry about us getting stuck. We scared all the people here a few times when we jumped right from the top of the tree to the ground. We've decided that while we can do it, it's easier to land on the lower palms instead. And when we do, our favorite thing is to get pet.

When I was a kitten, I was scared and needed a place to feel safe. That was a tree near a colony of community cats. The feeder soon found that I was interested in human attention and they got me to The Rescue House. Now I'm here and it won't come as any surprise to you that I like being up high, including the top of the palm tree that's eight feet tall.

When I'm on the ground, the thing I like the most is attention. I'll follow you around and if you give me a chance, I may hop up onto your shoulders. Sure, the wand toys are fun, but attention from you is what I really like.

Two of my kids and I went up to a feeder and said hello and showed them how friendly we are. That's when we entered The Rescue House system. My two kittens grew up and got adopted from here, so hopefully it's my turn.

I'm a playful and affectionate girl, but if I get too much attention, I'll let you know by getting mouth or paws on. That's okay. Just get a wand toy and play with me so that I can get my excess energy out and I'll be ready for pets.

When a person feeding a colony of cats came to help us one night, I and my two teenage sons ran over to say hello. The feeder decided that we belonged inside and got us to foster home for The Rescue House. And now, all of us have made our way to The Cat Cafe.

First up were my sons. Bramble and Manhattan got adopted quickly after they arrived, because they were so fun and entertaining together. And now that I've arrived, I've shown all of the staff and volunteers where they got that from.

One thing you'll have to be careful of is that I love to get paws and mouth on with people I like. This means I'm not going to be good in a home with young children or elderly people. But if you don't mind a love bite or two, you'll enjoy me.

I've come a long way since I was captured by employees at a Costco. I'm a smart and quick cat, and it took them all day to do it. It was a bit of a shock for me to go into a foster home because I had never lived inside. But I soon learned to like it. I needed to get some dental work done, and had to go back to the foster home to recover from that. As soon as I did, I rejoined the clowder at The Cat Cafe.

Just like the first time I arrived, I'm playful, fast, and fun. I like to chase around toys, especially mice and balls. And sometimes, I make the other cats toys as well.

Our lives got off to a fortunate start when a kind person found our pregnant mother caged in an abandoned building. Shen went to a foster home for The Rescue House and gave birth to us. We stayed with her until we were old enough to be on our own. After that, we got adopted and though we had a home of our own. Unfortunately, things changed for our adopter and we went back to The Rescue House.

We've been at The Cat Cafe for a while and everyone likes us. We greet the staff and visitors with loud meow and entertain them by licking condensation off of cups and doing other silly things. But we sure could use a home of our own. Maybe yours?

Meet Mellow Monty at The Cat Cafe

The first thing you'll notice about me is that I'm missing an eye. That's because it was badly infected and someone took me to a doctor to get it treated. They left me there after it was. The doctor got me to The Rescue House, and after some time to recover, I joined the clowder at The Cat Cafe.

I'm not the most active cat our there, and I like relaxing and observing things instead of sticking my paws into the action. That doesn't mean I don't like interacting with people. Pet me right and I'll start to make air biscuits for you and rev up the purr motor.

If you're looking for a mellow and calm cat who will spend his time by you but not pester you for attention, I'm your boy.

Alexander is a Unique Cat

Hi there. I'm Alexander. I was living in a home where there were too many cats, and none of us were getting fixed. As you can guess, that meant the population of us felines exploded. As the people in the cat room like to say, without the cats being fixed, the 12 cats in the cat room would quickly become 20.

Fortunately for us, The Rescue House was able to come in and take care of things. All of us got the care we needed in order to get a chance to thrive, and that includes getting fixed.

If you're looking for a cat who likes to talk, I'm your boy. That's right. I'm a boy even though I have a name that sure sounds like a girl's name. I demand pets from people who come in to interact with us cats. And when I'm not doing that, you can get me to play by using a wand toy like the people in the cat room tell you.

Another thing I like? My sister Smudge. She and I like to snuggle together and hang out with each other when we're not playing. And sometimes, our favorite toy is each other.

My mother was found outside very pregnant with me and my brother Purrl. We ended up being raised in a foster home for The Rescue House. After we were weaned, we came to The Cat Cafe to find a home.

I'm the more demonstrative of us two sibling. Flick the wand toy towards me and pull it away and I'll attack it for you. I also love to sit next to people whose company I enjoy so that I can receive pets. And I'll purr when the pets make me extra happy.

I need to go to a place where there's another active and playful cat, and my brother Purrl would be the perfect one to go with me.

I'm a lot more cautious about interacting with people than by mother Brandi and my already adopted brother Charlie. But give me time, and I'll become a good friend of yours.

I may not have a braided chain made of finest silver from the north of Spain, but I'm definitely a fine girl. Unlike the girl in the song, I had a tough start to my life. I lived with someone who was barely able to care for herself, and she knew she had to give me up when I got pregnant and gave birth to a stillborn kitten. Some of the rest of them didn't make it, but thanks to The Rescue House, some of them did. Now that my kittens are ready to live their own life, I'm ready for a happy life on my own.

As you'd suspect from a cat that lived outside, I love playing with mouse toys. After all, it's how I got to eat! Now I'm inside, I like to observe what's happening around the home when I play with them and love hearing about how cute it is.

I was here for a while but when I went to get a dental, the doctors discovered that my teeth needed more work than they thought initially. I went back to a foster home to recover, and when that happened, I came back to the clowder. It didn't take much time for me to start getting back to my active ways. I was fighting for survival as a pregnant cat in Tijuana. Someone saw me, and got help so that I could cross the border and give birth to my kittens in a place where we could all thrive. After raising my kittens, I joined the clowder here at The Cat Cafe.

My time living outside and making sure I could keep the kittens in my womb safe means that I take a while to shed my caution. But when I do, I'll give you head bonks if you stretch your hand out. And my cute little meow is a sign I'm happy with you.

Phoebe Flees Freeway to Join The Cat Cafe Clowder

Cats like me are known for our incredible reflexes. We make even the fastest humans look slow. And those reflexes were required for me to survive living near a freeway. When kind people came to take care of a colony and get us fixed, they noticed how much I like people. They decided to give me a chance at a much less dangerous life inside.

Don't get me wrong. I still like to stalk and "kill" toys and show you how fast I am. But it's a lot safer doing it here. Get me going, and you might see me scale the eight foot tall palm or hop up onto another high spot where I can observe things.

Cass and Ash Rev Up Their Purr Motors

It's fitting that a bonded pair of brothers who were found under the hood of a car like to rev up the purr motor when we get comfortable with you. After a kind person got us fixed and let us live in the garage, we came here. It took a while before we started to venture out, but now we will talk to visitors when we want attention.

If you hear an insistent meow from up high, it's probably us. Give us some time, though, and we'll come down for pets and give you head bonks. And yes, that purr motor will rev right up.

Snapdragon Stadium may be a place where people have a lot of fun, but it's not a good place for a cat like me to live. Some kind people who take care of cats around there found me. They saw how much I enjoyed people so they tried to make me part of their clowder at home. Unfortunately, the cats who were already there didn't want to be friends with me. That's how I ended up coming to The Cat Cafe.

I've quickly settled in and become friends with the other cats. You'll find me wandering around the cat room, looking for people to pet my long black fur. And when I need a break, I like to make it challenging for you humans to find me by climbing up high. But it's worth seeing me up there, because you'll wonder how I manage to work my way into those spots.

Tripod Tobias Ambles Into The Cat Cafe Clowder

My two years of life have been a hard one so far. Someone abandoned me outside and since I wasn't neutered, I ended up getting in a lot of tussles. That's why I have a cauliflower ear. On top of that, I suffered a leg injury that resulted in my left leg getting so damaged that the doctors decided to amputate it to give me a better life.

Now that I'm inside, that doesn't matter. I sometimes forget that I'm missing that leg and topple over when I try to stand on my hind legs. And when I grab on to a kick toy, you'll see me want to start kicking with the missing leg.

The people here think it's cute. And I enjoy entertaining them. Come see me and see if you want me to amble into your home.

A Tough Start to Life for Tobias Didn't Dampen His Spirits

The Rescue House doesn't know how I ended up in a colony of cats that were being fed, but what they do know is that my time there resulted in me getting a cauliflower ear due to the fights I got into. And that wasn't the worst of it. I injured my leg so badly that the doctors decided it was better to remove it.

Despite all of this, I love getting chin scratches and pets. And when I get to know you, I'll follow you around. When I do that, you'll see that I may have one less leg than most cats, but I get around just fine.

When we turned up at a colony of cats that are being fed by kind people, we stood out immediately because of how friendly we are. Most of the cats there tolerate people. We came right over to talk to the person who was feeding us. That's why we went to a foster home for The Rescue House and came here.

And that personality that got us inside is on full display here. We were in the cat room within minutes of arriving, entertaining visitors. We haven't slowed down since we arrived, other than for our needed naps to recharge. They don't call them cat naps for nothing.

But don't worry, once we relax for a while, we'll be up and about and maybe if you're lucky we'll claim your lap for ours.

Topaz May Be Toothless but He Has a Big Heart

I thought I had a good home, but when I developed medical issues, the people who had me couldn't take care of them. I went to The Rescue House to get a chance to get the care I needed. And the doctors found out that I had a condition called stomatitis. This meant I needed to have all my teeth removed because they were hurting me.

Once I got that taken care of and recovered, I came to The Cat Cafe. It took a while for me to get used to things, so I spent most of my time in the retreat. But as I felt more comfortable, I started to venture out and now you'll find me in the cat room except when I want to sleep. I'm a smart cat who knows he won't be bothered in the retreat, so when it's sleepy time, I go there.

When I was a kitten, I got adopted and thought I had a forever home. But when my person got married, we learned that the other person in the home was severely allergic. They found me a home with a family member, but that person doesn't really like cats. They took care of me but they wanted to find me a home with a true feline fancier.

The Rescue House found a place for me and then they brought me here. I'm older than many of the cats here, so I'm calmer and it takes me longer to warm up to strangers. But give me a chance and I'll show you my friendly side and snuggle with you.

My life kind of resembles a country and western song, and I like to sing to visitors and other cats so my name is fitting. I lived in the attic of an artist's studio for a while, and my fur got as dirty and dusty as a a cowboy's hat after a cattle drive. But when I made my way to The Rescue House and a foster home, I showed that I'm quite the showman.

And I've continued it as a member of The Cat Cafe clowder. When I'm in the mood, I'll sprint across the floor of the cat room, often with a little yowl to announce my intentions. I've become friends with most of the cats here, including the resident grumpy old man Leo.

As you can imagine, I need to go to a home where there is another playful and active cat. If that's yours, I'll gladly sing my hellos to you.

I was living in the desert in Imperial County when the shelter there took me in. But I spent a lot of time in the shelter and didn't find a home. I was happy there, but when the chance came to head to the coast, I was happy to be selected.

Within minutes of arriving at The Cat Cafe, I was in the cat room exploring. I started making friends with the other cats in the clowder and the people who come to see us as well right away. And I haven't stopped.

You should visit me. I'm sure to entertain you and you may want to take me home.

When I was found outside, I had a medical condition that needed surgery. You see, the bones around my sternum were collapsed and it meant I was having a challenging time taking care of myself. The surgery was successful and after recovering at a foster home for The Rescue House, I came here.

I'm still figuring things out, so I don't spend as much time in the cat room as the others. But if I'm out, I love to give head bonks to people who are nice to me. I am so affectionate that it's hard to get photos or videos of me.

I'm a small boy, but if you come in to meet me, you'll see why it took the staff at a Costco the full day to be able to get me on my way to a better life than their parking lot. I love to run around and play with toys. If you're not careful, you might find that I think your shoelaces are toys. When I'm not doing that, I sometimes will find a toy to play with on my own.

I've got two speeds, on or off. And when I'm done playing, I like to nap under a chair or in an enclosed space. Because I'm small, sometimes, people can't find me.

One of the first things you'll notice about us is the striking markings we both have. That's because we're bengal cats. And because of our age and how strongly we've attached ourselves to the people who work here, we're not available for adoption.

Jacey was living in a home with a veterinarian, but when one of the children went off to boarding school, she found ways to entertain herself. One of those ways was to sneak out of the house to climb onto the roof of the home. Her person realized this couldn't continue, and sadly sought a home for her. She made her way to San Diego and has been a resident cat for many years now. You'll notice some scarring on the left side of her face due to radiation therapy that took care of a nasal lymphoma. Despite her age and the cancer treatment, Jacey still runs around and plays like a cat ten years younger than her.

Leo found himself abandoned in an empty house when his people moved. Because he was left behind after eight years, he was depressed when he arrived at The Cat Cafe. He didn't eat enough to keep his weight at a healthy level initially. But as he learned to trust the people on staff, he began to eat enough to sustain himself. That's why the veterinarians said Leo should stay with us at The Cat Cafe.

While neither of these cats are adoptable, they're good ambassadors for their breed and they give return visitors a pair of cats they can look forward to seeing.
